Huckabee's Flagpole Proctitis
John McCain, pledging to honor principle over politics, stated that the flag had no place flying over the State House in Columbia. His main competitor, Baptist minister Mike Huckabee pandered to the bigot vote stating "...[i]n fact, if somebody came to Arkansas and told us what to do with our flag, we'd tell 'em what to do with the pole, that's what we'd do," This is a shameful position for anyone claiming to follow the teachings of the Christian Bible.
In September 2000, the Aryan Nation of Hayden Lake, ID was forced to pay damages of $6.3 million to a mother and son who were attacked by members of the hate group. Lacking the liquidity, the Aryan Nation was forced to hand over all of its property, both physical and intellectual. This included many writings an publications. The plaintiffs gained exclusive rights to the group's hate literature and memorabilia, ending their publishing and sale.
We propose a similar course of action to end the flag's proliferation. Black groups should collectively sue for ownership of the Confederate flag, thereby preventing the use or sale of it's image without their explicit permission. Ownership of the flag is clear and it should be argued that, being the property of the Confederate States of America who sanctioned the systematic rape and lynching of thousands of black folk in the South and cost the United States more blood than any war in its history, Blacks should be able to take control of all the properties and "war relics" of the Confederacy.

I can understand your principle here, but much could be said for the Native Americans of our nation.
What of all the lives, property, traditions, and culture lost to them as well due to war squirmishes, and illegal actions and politics there.
"the United States of America who sanctioned the systematic rape and lynching, and slaughter, of thousands of Native Americans almost to the point of extinction of all nations. Ownership of property, peace treaties, etc, where all clear as well, and just as violated. I tend to think this is the proverbial "can of worms" awaiting emergance for many other groups of individuals out there. I'm not saying I am against this proposed action.I agree that what is rightfully theirs be returned, and control be given, just that if you are going to support one, then be prepared to support the others that may follow.

i think that this is just another thing for black america to whine and cry about. the confederate flag is still part of the american heritage and therefore we should proudly fly it. though we should fly it at a lower mast then the american "stars and strioes" flag. If the american heritage offends the blacks or any other american then they need to study up on their history or leaave the country. the confederate flag stood for the unification of the states against principals that moved away from where the founding fathers of our country tried to direct it to. the civil war was more about taxes and the individual states rights to inflict those taxes, then it was about hate. if people think that it was about slavery then they need to look at their beloved president lincoln who DID own slaves of his own. bottom line is that slavery has been abolished for over 140 years, and it is time that the blacks get over it and move on, unless of course there is one single person alive that was a slave in the 1800's then that person and only that individual would be owed anything. If any race of people have the right to complain about anything it is the native americans, and in case people haven't noticed they moved on and have become constructive members of society and not whining dead beats living off the "system" because they feel they are owed something. if people in general want to be treated equally, then like the native americans, they need to stop complaining and better themselves by becoming responsible citizens of the USA. if they spent half the effort and time in bettering themselves as they do trying to get something for nothing they would have no reason to complain.
Do not give this flag to the blacks. This flag belongs to all Americans as it is part of our history. We must accept it for what it is. This flag represented more than slavery, this did not become a major issue until 1863. The War Between The States involved a way of life and politics in the south that did not comply with northern policy.
One must remember that thier were soldiers and civilians (Copperheads) that served the south and also many blacks and Native Americans served in the Confederate Armies. One must also remember that at least 5 Native American Tribes had black slaves, and the war did not release them. And do not forget about the people from China who became slaves. As you can see now there were and there still are more important issues than this flag.
This flag should be retired and only flown in honor of those who served under it. Confederate cemataries, battlefields, re-enactment units and museums. The whole story behind this flag needs to be told.
No organization or individual should be allowed to display this flag under any condition other than those stated above.
Symbols...marks...things...groups/ If one decides to give power to an entity, and let that entity reside in ones psyche. Then the owness of recognition is thiers.
This is not a race issue- it is a choice issue.
The flag is part of American history. We would all do well to study our history , traditional and non-traditional accounts alike. The truth of a thing is not to be found in only one place. And since we are whinning, what about the Irish they were treated the worst.
So "Freedom Of Speech" only applies to 'approved' speech? What if I decided that all the references to Martin Luther King were offensive? Could I have them removed from public veiw and hearing, as well? Or, maybe it's only symbols that apply to Caucasians that can be removed.
And by the way, the comparisen of the Confederate Flag (which is not even the official Confederate Flag) with the Nazi Swastika is so disgusting, shameless and dishonoable as to be beneath contempt. The Confederacy and the Nazi Party had absolutley nothing in common. That's on the same level as comparing Martin Luther King to Idi Amin. All the Flag-Haters need to crawl back under whatever rock they came out from under, and quite trying tom cause trouble where there isn't any.
i think that the flag represents independence not hate. i think that anyone who opposes the csa should go to hell. if obama wins the election he will try to take all the confederate flags down in america.we cant let that happen.i am not a supporter of the kkk but i do support the csa.2 different things.the kkk are racist but the csa are independant.to hell with obama!!!
I am sorry but I do not see the Confederate flag as a symbol of slavery and hate as you want to see it. Yes I am southern and no I am not a racist hick as many want to paint all southerners. Although I agree it does not seem appropriate to be placed on top of a statehouse, I also feel that it does not need to be banned/burned/or forgotten. It is a flag and yes it was used during the civil war - approximately 144 years ago. It was the second flag of the conferderacy but it was only one of like 180! Working on changing peoples views is what is needed - not placing the blame on a flag.
